A Taste Of Old Lapland

Step back in time

You spend an enchanting evening at Äkäsmylly’s atmospheric eco-café listening to genuine stories and legends of Old Lapland.

A lady local to the Lappish forests, will warmly welcome you as they tell about the Sámiland elves, the local history, the forces of nature and the Shamans, the life of Old Lapland and the inhabitants of area. They will also tell some fascinating stories of the Shaman’s drum and captivate you as they present their own drums.

Äkäsmylly’s eco-café is a small, cozy log cabin enjoying a scenic location by an old water mill on the shores of the pristine Äkäsjoki river just north of Äkäslompolo. Äkäsmylly and its surrounding area has a rich and special history.
That mysterious and wonderful atmosphere still lives strong in the whitewater spray of the Äkäslinka rapids close to Äkäsmylly.

Your guide will serve coffee heated on the open fire, tea made from Lappish wild herbs and tasty berry pie. While enjoying these delicacies, soak up the ambience as your guide tell their tales and let you into the secrets of the northern forests of Old Lapland.
