Home away from Home

People have been drawn to Äkäslompolo for years. No matter if you visit the area as a tourist or come here to work for a season, many return year after year, and some never leave. They say „if you drink the water you’ll never leave“ and the same happend to us, we drank the water. We came here for seasonal work, but then we all fell in love with this magical area and the people, and it became our second home. Now we want to give something back to the community and give you the possibilty to experience the beloved Ylläs area in a new way.

We wanted to do something that brings people closer to the beautiful nature surrounding us and offers a unique experience for this area, and although northern light cabins are booming all over Lapland, we wanted to make them afordable for everyone. We want you to be able to experience this beautiful spot, not only as an overnight guest, but also if you just want to come for sauna or dinner, organize your wedding or enjoy a relaxed evening with friends or family. Our door is open, and we hope to be welcoming you to our home away from home.

Fabienne Rochat

Owner and CEO

After completing my training as a HF tourism specialist in Zurich, I was able to gain experience in the industry in various positions in Switzerland and Finland since 2009. Through my work as a tour operator represantative in Äkäslompolo I have built up a great connection to the region. Together with my husband Hanspeter and our business partner Brian, I was able to fulfill my dream of becoming self-employed in Lapland.

Hanspeter Engler

Owner and Founder

I am from Switzerland and have been working in tourism since 2010. Since 2011 my wife Fabienne and I have spent the winters working in Äkäslompolo as representatives of a Swiss travel agency. Äkäslompolo has become our second home. We’ve always had the plan to build something of our own in Lapland, and with Arctic Skylight Lodge we are fullfilling our dream.

Brian Stockil

Originally I am from Zimbabwe, from the other side of the world, but I’ve never felt closer to home than here in Äkäslompolo. When coming here for the first time I just decided to stay and build a future. I’ve been guiding and working in tourism my whole life, running a safari company in the village since 2016; opening Arctic Skylight Lodge with Hanspeter and Fabienne was a natural step to make a living here all year round.
